You have been preparing for your wedding day for months or possibly even years. The only thing that has been on your mind is getting your dress, hair, flowers, and all your venues lined up. Choosing the perfect ceremony location as well as a place to have photos taken and your reception venue can prove complicated in itself. Not to mention the one question that plagues brides around the world – what if it rains? Rain on your wedding day, according to many cultures, is supposedly good luck. Of course, it’s not always ideal if any of your venues are located outdoors! So, what can you do if your big day gets washed out?

Umbrellas

If you are hosting your wedding ceremony or even your photo session outdoors, there’s no need to worry about a few drops of rain. Unless the wind is howling and there’s a huge storm headed your way, you could just as well use some brightly colored umbrellas. This way, you will add even more color to your décor and enjoy the scenery you had your heart set on. For romantic photos, make sure that you get one large umbrella that will shield the bride and the groom. Look for one that matches your color scheme or just choose white if you’re not sure.

Footwear

If you are worried about your feet getting wet or your shoes getting muddy, you can take a pair of rain boots along. If you are getting married outdoors and planning photos outdoors, these boots will come in very handy! Once you reach your reception, you can switch the boots out for your regular shoes and dance the night away! Do the same for your bridesmaids too and, while you’re at it, make sure that you look for boots that will match the color of their dress or your color scheme.

Portable coverage

Tents and over portable forms of roofing can be rented at the drop of a hat. Some of these tent designs have “walls” that can be rolled up. You can choose whether you want a fully closed tent or if you’d like to open one or more sides for fresh air and to enjoy the view. Just make sure that you ask about the setup. Some rental companies do not assist with setting up these tents and others do. You will probably need to pay more for the setup, but it’s worth it! Also, ask the venue(s) if you are permitted to use a tent on their grounds. It’s not usually an issue, but you should always ask.

Flexible venues

Different venues have different facilities. Some might only have an indoor area, others strictly outside, and some have both. Speak to the venue owner or manager and ask about possible solutions in the event of rain. If need be, send “rain cards” out with your invitations and explain where they should go if the outdoor location is rained out.

Prepare your guests

If you are planning on having your ceremony or reception outdoors, you should let your guests know. It’s always polite to make sure that your guests understand the type of conditions they will encounter so that they too can come prepared. If you are unable to supply umbrellas for all the ceremony guests, you should include instructions in the invitations. Let your guests know if they need a particular color or if they should avoid a particular color (like black or dark blue).
