When choosing your wedding dress, there are a number of factors that will come into play. Firstly, your budget, secondly theme, and then there are the accessories to think about. It’s about your shoes, hair, makeup, jewelry and the bouquet that will accompany you down the aisle. Not only will your bridal bouquet be one of the main accessories during the ceremony, but it will also feature in many photos and your wedding video. All the more reason to choose wisely!

The first important point to consider is the style of your dress. The more elaborate the dress, the larger the bouquet should be. For example, if you are wearing a knee-length or slender shaped wedding gown, it would look best with a simple, small posy. On the other hand, if you are wearing a dress that makes you look like a Victorian Princess, then a larger bouquet would be a better fit. Take a moment to consider what Princess Diana would have looked like in that glorious dress if she was holding a small bunch of roses or lilies.

The second point to consider is the color. Many brides choose the color of their bouquet based on the color scheme of the wedding. If, for example, they choose red and white, the bridesmaids might wear red dresses and carry white bouquets while the bride may carry a red bouquet to compliment her white gown. For something a bit more unconventional, brides may choose to skip the white gown and go for another color altogether! Pink bridal gowns are quite popular, and they look lovely with pink and white bouquets.

Texture is another important consideration, and the texture of the bouquet is determined by the types of flowers you choose. A highly detailed dress will be best complimented by a less textured flower. A calla lily, for example, has less texture to it than a peony. If you wear a relatively simple dress, you can jazz it up with more textured flowers.

Foliage is optional when it comes to a bridal bouquet. Sometimes a bunch of roses, peonies, or calla lilies look so fabulous all on their own that you wouldn’t want to overcrowd them by adding greenery. On the other hand, if you want the kind of bouquet that trails down towards your feet, then a few long green vines like ivy could come in handy as well as other line flowers and ribbon to give it some length.

The theme of your dress is also important to take into account when choosing flowers. For example, if you are wearing a vintage style dress, you will be better off with a bouquet that resembles a handpicked bunch of wildflowers. If you choose a country style wedding, your might like the idea of using several shades of the same color (like yellow or orange) in your bridal bouquet.

Your bridal bouquet need not match any other wedding flowers! If you want to use more expensive flowers, like orchids, in your bouquet, it does not mean that you have to use orchids for your ceremony and reception décor. You might want to create continuity through colors, but you don’t need to use the very same flowers. Remember – the bride’s bouquet is supposed to be the most attractive of all!
